NEBOSH IDIP 2023 updates: What happened with the reputed level 6 OHS Diploma qualification?

How NEBOSH overcame these struggles? What will be the scenarios for the learner’s studying or completed diploma qualification?

NEBOSH International Diploma in occupational health and safety is level 6 qualification offered by NEBOSH. Initially the board had an SQA accreditation for the Level 6 courses. You can verify this, if you are an old NEBOSH IDIP professional through SQA logo on your certificates. At that time, NEBOSH IDIP had an IOSH membership accreditation. But later on IOSH had announced that they will retrieve this accreditation because the regulator doesn’t support international qualification for NEBOSH level 6 Diploma.

So IOSH announced that the learners who have enrolled after 31 August 2022 for NEBOSH IDIP level 6 in OHS qualification will not gain IOSH membership after course completion.
Hence this NEBOSH IDIP 2023 updates are mainly focused on rectifying such problems. So the main change starts with the regulator. First update is that the regulator is changed from SQA Ofqual accreditation. This means that the current learners are eligible for IOSH membership qualifications.
Secondly, due to the change in the regulator there are some change made in the courses also which are differentially explained below.

What will be the scenarios for the learner’s studying or completed diploma qualification?

There are different scenarios for learners during this major change by NEBOSH in level 6 qualification. Let’s see those different scenarios one by one.

If the student has obtained the level 6 qualification before 31 August 2024 and has enrolled with NEBOSH before 31 August 2022. Such learners are eligible for IOSH memberships.

Learners who are studying under July 2020 specification and have not completed the qualification. These learners will automatically be converted to 2023 specification and receive certifications with Ofqual Logo after completion. These learners are also eligible for IOSH membership because of Ofqual accreditation.

Learners who have registered for NEBOSH International Diploma after 31 August 2022 and completed all units before July 2023. Unfortunately for these learners, IOSH membership is not possible to obtain/ apply for after completion of NEBOSH international diploma.

Do not worry!!!!!!! Regardless of SQA/Ofqual regulator the other recognitions of remains unchanged.
